How to Play Paper.io: Claim the Map
Paper.io is one of those games that looks like a simple doodle, but it's actually a real strategy game. You're a little square, and you're trying to claim as much of the map as you can. The bigger your territory, the higher you rank. But claiming territory is risky, because you're vulnerable while you're doing it. Here's how to get good at Paper.io.
Claim territory in small chunks
The first mistake new players make is trying to claim a huge chunk of territory at once. That's a big risk, because you're vulnerable while you're drawing the line. If someone cuts you off, you're dead. Instead, claim territory in small chunks. Draw a small line, close it off, and you've claimed a small area. It's safer, and it adds up over time.
Close your lines quickly
When you're claiming territory, you're drawing a line from your territory out and back. The danger is that someone can cut your line while you're drawing it. So the key is to close your lines quickly. Don't draw a long, winding line. Draw a short, direct line, and close it off fast. The faster you close the loop, the safer you are.
Defend your territory
Once you've claimed territory, you need to defend it. Other players will try to cut into your territory and claim it for themselves. The key is to watch the edges of your territory and cut off anyone who tries to come in. If you see a player's line coming into your territory, cut it. You'll kill them and claim their territory.
Don't overextend
The biggest mistake in Paper.io is overextending. You see a big area of unclaimed territory, and you want it all. But the more you claim, the more you have to defend, and the more vulnerable you are while you're claiming. Don't try to claim the whole map. Claim what you can defend, and grow slowly.
Paper.io is a game of territory and strategy. Claim in small chunks, close the loop quickly, defend your territory, and don't overextend. Do that, and you'll take over the map.
